Rotobrush Coil Cleaning: The Houston Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Rotobrush-compatible coil cleaning components for residential and light-commercial Rotobrush duct cleaning systems across Houston, with most installed replacements running between $180 and $420 depending on your model and what’s actually failed. Most coil cleaning issues we see in Houston are diagnosed on the first visit and repaired the same day the part is in hand. The telltale sign is usually a Rotobrush that starts leaving visible debris behind on the coil surface, or a brush head that spins sluggishly even at full vacuum, or a coil that won’t hold tension anymore. In Houston’s humidity, we also see corrosion on coil assemblies that sit in unconditioned garages or van storage between jobs. That’s a real pattern here, not a rare exception.
Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To
Rotobrush has put out several system generations over the years, and the coil cleaning assembly is not a universal fit across all of them. The most common units we work on in Houston are the Rotobrush aiR+ and the older Rotobrush Scorpion and Viper lines, along with the R500 and R2S units that still show up regularly in contractor vans. The coil cleaning component on the aiR+ is keyed differently than the one on the Scorpion-era systems, so a part ordered by “it looks right” from an online listing is the single biggest mis-order we correct for Houston owners. Before you buy anything, look for the model plate on the back of the main housing. If that plate is missing or worn off, measure the coil shaft diameter and the inner bore of the cleaning head: if the shaft is 3/8 inch versus 1/2 inch, that difference alone filters out most wrong parts. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Rotobrush specifically, we’re straightforward about it: Rotobrush’s own replacement coil assemblies are built to their spec, but for older units where OEM parts are discontinued or backordered for weeks, there are quality aftermarket equivalents that hold up fine in regular use. Kestrel Air Duct Houston is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Rotobrush, so we stock both OEM and aftermarket options and will tell you which one makes sense for your unit and your budget before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Rotobrush Coil Cleaning Is Failing
- Debris left behind on the coil after a pass. When the coil cleaning head loses its edge or the coil starts to flatten out, it stops scraping the crud off the coil surface and just rides over it. You’ll see a visible film or fur line on the coil where the head should have cleaned.
- The brush head spins slow or labors even with full vacuum. That’s often the coil cleaning drive coupling slipping, or the coil itself binding inside the housing. In Houston, dust mixed with humidity turns into a paste that works its way into those tight clearances and accelerates the wear.
- You have to push hard to get the head to seat on the coil. A distorted coil cleaning ring or a worn centering shoulder will fight you at the connection. If it doesn’t click in smoothly, the coil isn’t being cleaned on axis, and the result is uneven wear.
- Visible rust or pitting on the coil assembly. We see this constantly on Houston units stored in garages or sheds without climate control. The coil itself is typically plated or coated, and once that coating fails, the underlying steel goes fast. A rusted coil will chew through cleaning heads far quicker than a clean one.
- Vibration or chattering during cleaning passes. This is usually the coil cleaning arm losing tension or a bearing on its way out. It never improves on its own, and running it chattering just wrecks the head and the coil together.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Houston Rotobrush owners, here’s what replacement actually costs. A coil cleaning head alone, installed, typically runs $120 to $220. A full coil assembly replacement, which we recommend when both the head and the drive coupling show wear, lands between $220 and $420 installed. The spread depends on whether you have a current-generation aiR+ or an older Scorpion/Viper unit where aftermarket parts are your only realistic option. Every quote from Kestrel Air Duct Houston includes the part, the labor to install it and set the tension correctly, and a test pass to confirm the head cleans true. The price you get in writing before we touch the machine is the price you pay. There’s no “found something else while we were in there” revision. If the replacement fails within 365 days, we return and make it right under the Done Right Promise, at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Guarantee in writing, the same standard we’ve kept since 2004.
FAQ: Rotobrush Coil Cleaning in Houston
In Houston’s climate, a coil cleaning head typically lasts 300 to 500 cleaning jobs before it visibly loses its edge, though units stored in unconditioned garages near the coast can degrade faster due to humidity and salt air. If you’re a contractor running the aiR+ several times a week, plan on replacing the head at least once a year; if you’re a homeowner who uses it a few times each season, you’re likely looking at three to five years. The coil itself lasts longer, often double the head’s lifespan, unless moisture has worked into the housing. Call (254) 347-2738 and we’ll help you figure out where your unit sits on that curve.
Not reliably. Once the cleaning edge dulls or the centering shoulder wears, no field fix restores it to clean contact tolerances. We’ve seen owners attempt to dress the edge with a file or shim it with tape, and the result is always the same: it cleans for a job or two, then leaves streak lines and accelerates wear on the coil body. Replacement is the honest answer.
Most coil cleaning replacements in Houston take 30 to 45 minutes from bench to test pass. The work includes removing the worn head, inspecting the coupling and tension arm for secondary wear, installing the new component, setting the coil tension to spec, and running a verification pass. If the coupling shows wear too, add 15 minutes. We carry the common heads and couplings for aiR+, Scorpion, Viper, and R-series units on our truck, so the job is usually done in one visit.
We stock Rotobrush-compatible coil cleaning heads and full assemblies for the most common Houston models, and we can source OEM or quality aftermarket parts for older units within a few business days. We also keep parts on hand for Lennox, Trane, and Carrier duct cleaning equipment for owners running mixed fleets. You don’t need to order anything in advance: call us, we identify the right part, and we bring it with us.
DIY or Call Us?
This is not a high-tension spring or an electrical panel, so the risk in swapping a coil cleaning head isn’t severe injury. It’s the quieter risk: ordering a part by guess, paying for it, and finding it doesn’t fit your generation of machine. We see that exact result at least once a month in Houston, usually from a well-meaning owner who trusted a listing that showed a similar-looking part with no model verification. If you want to handle it yourself, you can safely do the diagnosis: check the model plate, measure the shaft diameter, and photograph the coil and head from three angles. Then send us those photos. We’ll confirm the correct part and either ship it to you or install it for you. Most Houston owners with a Rotobrush choose the latter, because the installed price includes the part, the labor, the setup done right, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. Clean ducts, straight price, no guesswork.
If your Rotobrush has gone dull on you, call (254) 347-2738 and ask for Dale. We’ll tell you exactly what’s failed, exactly what it costs to fix, and exactly when we’ll be there. Written price before any work starts, every time. That’s the Kingswell Way.
