Worth knowing

That "$99 whole-house special" is a bait ad - the real number appears once they are in your hallway, or the "clean" is a shop-vac at the register. We photograph the inside of your ducts before and after instead.

Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning: The Houston Owner’s Guide

If your Rotobrush register and grille cleaning attachment has cracked, stripped its bristles, or stopped locking onto the tool head, we stock compatible replacements and can install them for most Houston homes at a total cost between $85 and $175, parts and labor included. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a register that used to come clean in one pass now needs three or four, or the attachment wobbles on the spindle and throws bristles onto the floor. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Rotobrush, but we work with their equipment daily and keep the common wear parts on the truck.

Which Rotobrush Models This Applies To

The register and grille cleaning attachment fits Rotobrush’s air duct cleaning systems across the R- and AiR- series lines, including the R2, R3, and AiR+ models that dominate the Houston contractor market. The compatibility gotcha most owners hit is the spindle diameter: Rotobrush changed the drive coupling on later AiR+ units, so a brush head that fits a 2015 R3 will not seat correctly on a 2022 AiR+ without an adapter sleeve. Check the stamped code on the side of your brush hub: “RB-RG” followed by a three-digit number is the original Rotobrush part series, while aftermarket equivalents from Jet-Line and Air-Care carry their own numbering but cross-reference cleanly if you have the Rotobrush part number on hand. We stock both OEM Rotobrush brush heads and quality aftermarket equivalents, and in our experience the aftermarket nylon bristle sets last about 80 percent as long as OEM at roughly 60 percent of the price. For most Houston homeowners running one or two cleanings a year, aftermarket is the honest value pick. If you’re running a commercial route or cleaning multiple rentals, stick with OEM.

A note on Houston specifically: the fine gypsum dust and high humidity here accelerates bristle degradation faster than drier markets. We routinely see Rotobrush register brushes in Houston losing 30 to 40 percent of their bristle stiffness inside 18 months, where the same part in a dry climate would run three years. It is not you, and it is not the brush. It’s Houston.

Signs Your Rotobrush Register & Grille Cleaning Attachment Is Failing

  • Uneven cleaning on the register face. When the brush bristles wear down on one side, you’ll see clean streaks next to dirty streaks after a pass. The brush is sitting slightly off-axis, which means the hub bearing or the bristle set is worn past tolerance.
  • The attachment rattles or vibrates in your hand. A healthy Rotobrush register attachment spins true and quiet. Vibration almost always means the drive coupling has ovaled out, and continuing to run it that way will score the tool spindle, turning a $40 brush head problem into a $200 spindle repair.
  • Bristles breaking off during use. Nylon bristles snap when they get brittle, and Houston’s heat cycling inside unconditioned attics accelerates that brittleness. If you’re sweeping bristles off the floor after every job, the brush is done.
  • The quick-connect collar won’t lock. The spring-loaded collar on the hub is the first thing to go on Rotobrush heads that get dropped or banged around in truck boxes. Sometimes it is just debris in the collar, which you can blow out with compressed air. More often, the retaining clip inside has bent.
  • Visible cracking at the hub. Hairline cracks around the spindle bore are the end of the road. Running a cracked hub risks the brush coming apart at speed, which throws plastic fragments toward you and the register. Replace it before the next job.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Houston, expect to pay between $85 and $175 for a Rotobrush register and grille cleaning attachment replacement installed. The spread depends on whether we’re fitting an OEM Rotobrush head or a quality aftermarket equivalent, and whether your system needs the AiR+ adapter sleeve. That price includes the part, the install, a spindle inspection to make sure the tool side is not damaged, and a test run on one of your registers before we leave. We do not quote a lowball part price and then add surprise labor. The price Dale Whitmore writes down before we start is the price you pay, and our work on this part carries the same 365-Day Done Right Promise as every job we do: if the replacement fails within a year under normal use, we come back and do it again free. No forms, no arbitration, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

Swapping a register brush head is one of the safer maintenance tasks on a Rotobrush system, but the failure mode is what makes it worth doing carefully. The brush spins at enough RPM to throw a loose hub or broken bristle across a room, so we do not advise running a cracked or vibrating attachment even once while you wait for a replacement part to ship. You can safely inspect the hub for visible cracks, check the collar spring tension by hand, and blow out the spindle bore with compressed air. What you should not do is try to repair a bent retaining clip or shim an ovaled coupling with tape or foil. The coupling has to seat perfectly or the vibration feeds back into the tool motor, and that repair costs more than the brush head every time. If you’re in the Houston area and want it done right the first time, call (254) 347-2738 and we’ll bring the right part to you.
